Here is a Narrative Writing Criteria Chart for a Grade 1 writing assignment. Next to it is the Bubble Map being used for the Pre-Write. Notice that the key words are color coded on the Criteria Chart. The Writing Prompt was charted and key words were color coded as well, in order to connect the task with the criteria. The Bubble Map was labled with the key words as well. This helps students make connections between the task, the criteria (what counts in the writing), and the pre-writing.
